The i.xpo forest
For quite some time now, we have been working on compensating a part of our CO2 emissions. Our idea to reforest a clear area at our expense in Germany, ideally even close to Kaarst, was successfully realised in the spring of 2018.
Facts and figures regarding the i.xpo forest:
Location: section 73B4, communal district Lintorf, plot 2, sub-plot 12 in the so-called Eichförstchen.
About 3,000 three-year-old Douglas fir seedlings (50-70 cm tall) were planted on 5,000 square meters in this area.
The costs for the seedlings and the planting were covered by i.xpo.
According to the calculations of the responsible forester, the trees will now grow by about 16 solid cubic metres per year and hectare over the next few years or decades (at 0.5 ha corresponding to 8 fm).
Per solid cubic meter of wood, one can calculate with 50% carbon, which is integrated in the wood. This means that approximately four tons of carbon are bound on the surface per year. Since 1 kg C is equivalent to 3.67 kg CO2, about 14.68 tons of CO2 are extracted from the atmosphere for the 4 tons of carbon.
In the autumn of this year we will dig out one of the Eichförstchen seedlings, plant it in front of our company premises and provide it with an information board. The tree will then be i.xpoMission ambassador and stands for our endeavours to operate in a sustainable manner.
